Donato Pompo, founder of the University of Ceramic Tile and Stone (UofCTS), has worked in the ceramic tile and stone industry for over 30 years. He is also president of Ceramic Tile and Stone Consultants (CTaSC) a company comprised of accomplished ceramic tile and stone installers, experts, forensic investigators, construction scientists and other industry specialists located throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Early in his career Donato worked as a tile installer, acquiring valuable hands-on experience. After honorably serving his country in the U.S. military, Donato attended college and obtained a biochemistry education.  He then decided to enter the family business, which happened to be a respected tile distribution and importation firm in California. Donato remained there for 17 years, initially spear-heading the architectural sales division, and later successfully managing the company until it grew to be one of the largest distributors in the U.S.  His next career move, lasting seven years, was as sales manager for an international manufacturer of installation products for ceramic tile and stone. During this time, Donato obtained an MBA with an emphasis in both marketing and finance.

Since establishing CTaSC in 2002 Donato has assumed the role of forensic investigator, expert witness, quality control consultant, business consultant, and e-Learning guru and trainer. He is a frequent presenter at major industry events and has published many articles in national trade publications.

Donato is past chairman of the Ceramic Tile Distributors Association’s (CTDA) Education Committee. He is past chairman and current member of the Ceramic Tile Institute of America (CTIOA) Technical Committee, a member of the Marble Institute of America (MIA) and Building Stone Institute (BSI). He participates in the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Committee, and sits on the ASTM C18 Stone Committee as well as the ANSI A108 and ISO TC-189 Committees. Donato is a Floor Covering Institute (FCI) consultant a member of the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) Technical Committee. He is a Certified Microbial Remediator (CMR), a Certified Document Technologist (CDT) through the CSI architectural organization, and a Ceramic Tile Consultant through CTIOA.
